Discover more than 100 windmills that made the Zaan region famous.
In the 16th century, a industrial area was rapidly developing along the shores of the Zaan river, at unmatched speeds. Around the year 1800, there were about 600 windmills in full swing.
As a result of the revolving technical innovations, a lot of the windmills lost their function in the 19th and 20th century, but the visibile memories still remain.
In the Mill Museum, the Society of Zaan Mills shows you how and under what circumstances people worked and which products were made at that time. The collection of the Mill Museum gives you a comprehensive view of the rise and fall of the industrial windmills.
The collection of miniature oilmills, paper-, peel- and sawmills of great international importance are a pleasure to see for everyone... and not only for people with a technical eye!
